CHOOSE PRACTICAL AND HEALTHY MEAL TO BREAK YOUR FAST ON THE GO

Sometimes, traffic is so crowded or your schedule is so tight that you find yourself still on the road when it is time to break your fast.  After fourteen hours of not eating and drinking, your body will need to recharge.  Breaking fast on the go usually means having practical meal.  However, being practical does not mean you cannot eat healthy.  Here are five practical and healthy ideas for you to break the fast on the go:

1. Dates

This brownish-red fruit is a popular choice during Ramadan.  It tastes sugary and contains good substances that your body needs.  Dates contain natural sugar called fructose.  Your body will turn fructose from dates into energy and give you back some stamina.

Dates are also rich with minerals, vitamins, fibers, and antioxidants that are good for your ingestion system, brain function, and bone strength.  They also help your body to ward off free radicals.  In fact, dates can help controlling blood sugar level because of its low glycemic index.  That’s why dates are considered safe for people with diabetes.

2. Honey

Honey is considered better than sugar or other man-made sweeteners.  It’s because honey is high in calories and rich with fructose, maltose, sucrose, and glucose.  Having honey to break your fast is highly recommended because it will quickly restore your energy.

Moreover, honey contains many important antioxidants and virtually no fat or protein.  It can increase good cholesterol level in your body.  Consuming honey will help in stabilizing your blood pressure and preventing inflammation.

3. Bananas

Bananas can be a very good choice, especially when you are stuck in traffic.  They contain a lot of fibers and will quickly satiate your hunger.  More importantly, bananas mostly contain sugar (fructose, sucrose, and glucose), a perfect choice to replenish the energy.

Eating a banana to break your fast is recommended.  The soft texture is good for your ingestion system and its potassium contents will help decreasing your blood pressure.

 4. Sweet Potatoes

Carbohydrate is not the only thing sweet potatoes contain.  Vitamin A and C in sweet potatoes will replenish your tired body after a day of fasting.  Despite the sweet taste, sweet potato can in fact slow down sugar absorption and prevent increase in blood sugar level.

Besides, antioxidants in sweet potatoes act like green vegetables or broccoli.  They promote brain health.

5. Apples

An apple is another good option to break your fast.  Although it is low in calories, an apple can restore your energy through its high contents of vitamins and minerals.

Vitamin B, water, potassium, and iron in an apple are good for your heart and muscles.  That’s why apples are recommended for breaking your fast.
