TOTAL RAMADAN "BERBAGI DAN BERARTI"

TOTAL Ramadan "Berbagi dan Berarti“, a Unique Way of PT TOTAL Oil Indonesia to Turn Employees and Journalists into Mentors for Orphaned Children in an Artwork Program

JAKARTA, 23 June 2016 – The blessed and holy month of Ramadan is the moment to share compassion, joy, and kindness – showing care to those who are less fortunate, especially oprhaned children who hold a special place in Islam. Seeking to make this Ramadan Kareem meaningful, TOTAL as the world’s fourth largest integrated multinational oil and gas company chooses a very unique way to share the month’s joy with orphans. The program, titled Berbagi dan BerARTi, or sharing and creating meaning, is held at Sport Stube in Pondok Indah Golf, South Jakarta. This program is a special presentation from PT TOTAL Oil Indonesia, a lubricant manufacturer from France that brings Age Resistance Technology (ART) in Total Quartz, the leading car engine oil product from Total.

Emmanuel Dujeu, Managing Director PT TOTAL Oil Indonesia is excited to be involving multiple parties in this Ramadan program, Berbagi dan BerARTi. “We wish to do one concrete goodness in Ramadan especially for orphaned children, who hold a special place, so that they, too, can enjoy the joyful serenity of Ramadan. We are looking forward to TOTAL Ramadan Berbagi dan BerARTi, as this is not another gift giving program, but aims to equip and empower them so that they in turn can give meaning in their lives and others’ through art.”

“At TOTAL Berbagi dan BerARTi, every participating employee and journalist plays an important role to help and guide the children to finish their art projects,” Dujeu continues. “The concept of this program is 1 employee for 1 orphan and 1 journalist-1 orphan. Each employee and each journalist will be paired with an orphan and together they will create artworks on canvas bags. We believe that this is a positive initiative that will create direct interaction between everyone involved. For the children, although brief, the experience can be a way for them to enrich their art skills – perhaps even to explore their talent in order to turn it into something they can depend on in the future. For the employees and journalists, this is the opportunity to work directly with the children, to guide and encourage them. Caring and the commitment for the better is the message we wish to convey through this program.

At the end of the event, the management of PT TOTAL Oil Indonesia will evaluate every artwork. The score gained by an artwork will be converted into monetary value between Rp400,000 to Rp500,000 per bag. The total amount of money accumulated by one orphanage will be forwarded to another orphanage in the event, and so on. “This way, the children also have the chance to share their joy among them and create meaning for others through their art,” says Dujeu.

A total of 100 orphans from three homes, namely Sekolah Alternatif Anak Jalanan (SAAJA) under the management of Yayasan Pemberdayaan Rakyat Miskin (YpaRaM) (40 children), Yayasan Berkah Yatim Mandiri (30 children), and Yayasan Ilmaan Naafian (30 children) get the chance to paricipate in the program. Prior to creating their artworks, the children will receive a short course on drawing techniques from Ganara Art Studio and facillitated by Art Director Tita Djumaryo
